DDLJ to be remade Sandalwood style

The
mother of all love stories is coming to Sandalwood.




The
Bollywood smash hit, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, will be remade with none
other than Golden Star Ganesh in the lead role. Confirming the news to BT,
producer HA Rahman, says, “This film is a classic and has set a record by
running at a Mumbai theatre for 700 weeks. That’s why I’ve decided
to make it in Kannada.”


Have they cast the heroine yet?
“We wanted to get Genelia D’Souza on board, but she couldn’t
give us dates. We’re considering Tanisha, Kajol’s sister, but
we’re still in the initial stages of discussion. Nothing’s been
finalised yet,” says Rahman, adding that he’s also on the lookout
for a director.


The film, which will go on the floors in January,
will tentatively be titled Maduve Mane, though nothing’s been decided for
sure yet. “The dialogues are being written right now. We’ll also
make sure that the Kannada version won’t be as long as the
original,” reveals Rahman. Perhaps, that’s because the film will not
be a clean copy of DDLJ. “In the Hindi version, they’ve shown a
typical Punjabi wedding, which is four-days-long. But in our film, we’ll
show the traditional Kannada wedding ceremonies, which go on for two
days,” explains the producer.


Rahman, who’s been behind
hits such as Yajamana and Huchcha, is confident that Maduvane Mane will be a
sure-fire hit. “Out of the 100 films that have released so far this year,
four were hits and another four have broken even. Audiences have stopped
watching Kannada films. A good family cinema entertainer might bring them back
to theatres, and with Ganesh in the lead, we can guarantee that,” he says.
So, will Ganesh’s screen name be Raj, just like SRK’s in the
original? “No. we haven’t zeroed in on anything yet, but we’ll
certainly give it a local touch,” says Rahman

The movie will
be produced by HA Rehman and will be slightly changing the script. In
the original Hindi version, a Punjabi wedding was featured in the
movie. Now, in the remake version in Kannada, a Kannada ritual
rich wedding will be highlighted. Earlier Pooja Gandhi was in the race
to play the female lead. Now, unofficially Ramya’s name is being taken
into account. The movie has been titled as “Madhuve Mane” which is not
officially registered in the film chamber.
